“A staircase that leaves you speechless and invites gentle footsteps,” is how our lovely client @studiocobanne described this staircase in their latest project. They added: “For this special project, we teamed up once again with Studio Jantien.”

Studio Cobanne turned the entrance into elegant charm with a lovely mosaic floor, reminiscent of a Parisian entrance with its black border. The staircarpet, with a keen eye for detail—notice how the pattern flows smoothly even with the slightly angled steps—was expertly installed by master fitter @ocsdave

Studio Cobanne selected the Chevron design in terra/limestone, carefully crafted in Belgium on the ancient Axminster loom. This hallway now offers such a warm welcome, and it’s a real compliment that not only the designers and residents are happy with the end result, but also the children in the house love how comfortably soft the stairs feel. After all, that’s what really counts—everyday comfort wrapped in beauty.

In many interiors, the staircase is often undervalued, even though it’s frequently the first thing you see when you enter. Studio Jantien brightens up every staircase.

As a former editor-in-chief of Residence and a designer for (inter)national hotels and museums, Jantien Nunnikhoven has well-established her reputation in the interior world. In 2019, she founded her own label, Studio Jantien, focused on designing high-quality and sustainable stair runners and carpets. Jantien says, “I always wonder what home means, how it feels, and I think that textures, colours, and patterns are amazing tools that trigger us and create a feeling you might miss.”

Prints and Patterns
“I see the world in patterns and colours,” she continues. “Like an archaeologist collecting shards of glass and pottery, I collect colours, shapes, and fragments of motifs that I use in my designs. I love the way a pattern repetition evolves.”
Her designs are very recognizable through the interplay of colourful, botanical, and large-scale patterns, clear lines, and bold graphic prints. These not only make the staircase a real eye-catcher but also dampen noise and provide a pleasant feeling underfoot. You’ll love running up such a staircase again.
